  2. Two worthy heroes if you ask me. I've only recently learned much about Darwin's life; it's nice when someone who's achieved great things also turns out to be a decent human being.

  3. Indeed so. Although I've always had a sneaking sympathy for Alfred Russel Wallace in the competitive, me-first way Darwin trumped him for "ownership" of natural selection while Wallace was safely out of the way in a Far Eastern sickbed.
